Metamorphosis

Autumn is here with its colour and drifting coolness and many of the trees are beginning to change.

Some quickly turn yellow all at once while others hold off; they hang on to their green finery as long as they can.

Others turn an impressive red.

The orangey-yellowish-red ones look very showy in the sun.

Whatever your colour preferences, it’s a very pretty interval as we enjoy this precious time before winter’s arrival.

Happy Thursday.

  1. It’s an exciting time, much like the greening of Spring, for us to enjoy the color and light of Autumn. It’s a shame it is so brief
    Have a lovely day, Lynette..

    1. Thank you very much, Steve. Yes, it is an exciting time with the weather quite nice right now and the light and colours so lovely. The brevity makes it precious, I think. Cheers.

  2. Hi Lynette – Great pictures! I love fall and, although we are still experiencing summer temps this week and the leaves have not begun their change, I look forward to all these colors. I did buy pumpkins and mums this week 🙂

    1. Thank you very much. 🙂 Yes, we had a rainy week which we desperately needed but are now back to quite warm temperatures; it’s very pleasant presently. Most our trees haven’t turned yet; I looked for the ones pictured. In about 10 days to two weeks we should be very colourful. Agreed – it’s such a beautiful time of year. Cheers.

    1. Thanks, Allan. Actually, most of our trees are still green; I looked around for the ones pictured. I’m also wondering if our colours are going to develop very well as so many of the trees were heat stressed. Time will tell. Cheers.

    1. Oh yes, you have that right! But I have to say that I’m actually relishing the fact that I won’t have to dig the snow equivalent of the English Channel tunnel to get through the door to go to work, though! After that, I can get through some bare trees. 😉

  3. Pretty. We only have one kind of tree changing here, so far. I don’t know what kind of tree it is, but the leaves turn yellow and are small and narrow. They are all over the sidewalks and are kind of slippery to walk on with the dog. Of course, he has no problem. 🙂 The maple leaves are not turning yet.

    1. Hi Lori, I think you might be describing the ash trees. They tend to turn first and drop their leaves quickly. The yellow-leafed trees in my photos are ash and I agree, their leaves tend to be slippery. Our trees are actually mostly still green; I had to look around for the ones pictured. Our maples haven’t started yet either, and I’m really looking forward to that – I get to enjoy it this year, as I won’t be in the north. Cheers.

      1. Hello Lynette
it is the same here in Germany, we have lost so many trees in the last 3 years, I wonder what will be left in 10 years? I feel that we have left it too late to save the planet. That is why it is so important to be environmentally aware and to engage with nature as we do. We have created a sustainable ecosystem here for wildlife. We do not use any poisons but rather work with nature.

        1. Agreed. We have done an incredible amount of damage in such a short period, and the events of this summer are being ignored by many who are in deep denial. Then of course, there’s greed. Ugh.

    1. The ash trees usually turn first with their bright yellow leaves and then the others in stages with the maples usually last. Most of our trees are still green, so there’s lots of colour to come! Cheers.
