Lush Summer Green

We have been very fortunate here in our little valley to have avoided the fires and extreme dryness of so many other parts of this big country.

While we could really do with more rain, there have been enough showers to keep everything green and percolating along. Given the conditions that other areas are suffering through, we’re in no position to complain.

It’s normal for this valley to be hot during the summer (40°C or 104F) but we have actually been slightly cooler than usual.

Happy Thursday.

  1. A little cooler in Penticton would be nice. Hope you get some more rain. It rained all day here yesterday and more rain is on the way. It really does help. Happy Thursday Lynette. Allan

    1. Thanks, Allan. We actually had quite a good soaking last night and today it’s 22C and very nice to be cooler. I’m glad to hear you had more rain. I hope it was widespread and helpful in putting out fires.

  2. A pretty summer by you. It’s hot, hot, hot, here. Like when I lived in Florida. Thankfully, it doesn’t last near as long. We’ve been getting the smoke from Canada here, almost daily, for weeks. It’s getting to my health. I cough and wheeze, plus my eyes are stinging and watery. Not good.

    1. Yes, we have been fortunate here with enough rain to keep us out of fire trouble. A lot of this country is burning, so I’m not surprised to hear that the smoke is getting to you. If you look at satellite pictures it’s a bit scary to see all the smoke plumes and so much of it is being carried south to the US. That is supposed to turn soon however, with cooler temperatures and rain for much of western Canada. Fingers crossed that it does so that you (and many others) start to feel better soon.

  3. The pleasant shade of midsummer. Interesting that you’ve been slightly cooler than usual. It’s been a persistently cool and rainy July here in the UK.

    1. We have definitely been inhabiting a microclimate. Reasonably safe from the fires and yes, somewhat cooler than normal although the weather has been good. Given that so many parts of the country are on fire, I’m happy to have a bit cooler summer. Cheers.

  4. Glad to hear that you’ve been spared from the crazy weather and wildfires. We’ve gotten a decent amount of rain this summer and have had some hazy days from the smoke. You win some, you lose some. It could be worse.

    1. I couldn’t agree more, Linda. We have really been fortunate as in previous years there have been lots of nearby fires and I thought we might really be in trouble given the dry conditions everywhere else. But even though there hasn’t been a lot of rain, there’s been enough to keep everything green. Cheers.
