Lilacs usually bloom in late spring – June – but with the unusually high temperatures this year, some of them are out already.

These old-fashioned flowers have such a gorgeous scent and really are the progenitors of summer.

Happy Tuesday.

They sure do. I used to live in a house surrounded by them. It was so gorgeous in June on a warm day. The scent was everywhere.

Or maybe it was a bunch of little old ladies having a tea party behind the hedge? Don’t they all smell like lilacs too? But yes, the lilacs just make you want to put your nose right into the bunch of flowers.

Yes, in Alberta they smell like lilac and in Penticton like lavender. 🙂 I agree, Anneli. I just want to hold that scent; never let it go!

Wouldn’t it be great to have a hint of it in the middle of a cold winter?

Crazy weather. Our lilacs were starting on May 10 and will be done before we get home. Sad face. Happy Tuesday Lynette. Allan

Thanks, Allan. Agreed; this weather is crazy. The heat, the drought, the fires – nuts. Too bad you will miss them.

One of the other bloggers I follow mentioned her lilacs being out, too. They are beautiful.

Yes, lilacs are so pretty and the scent is heavenly. They are out very early, though, but not unexpected given how warm it has been. Cheers.

Loving all the lilacs that are just blooming here. And the scent, yes, spectacular. Beautiful shots. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you very much. Lilacs are just so iconically symbolic of late spring. I love them.

I guess I’m old fashioned, cause these are my very favorite spring flowers. Our neighbors’ have already bloomed and are fading, but my personal lilac bush has lots of buds that have not bloomed yet. Guess they’re coming right on time. I can’t wait. I usually cut a bunch and put them in a vase for indoors, because you can smell them in the entire house.

I must be as well, because I love them. I used to live in a house that had many well-established bushes all around, and the scent on a warm day was just so wonderful. I agree – cutting a bunch for the house is lovely; all that spring scent inside. 🙂

We have a few lilacs in our backyard and they’re in full bloom now. They smell marvellous. I just wish they stayed in bloom for longer.
