not much as the grain would be too tight to carve I suspect? Whenever a tree bends or contorts the grain becomes very difficult, very hard! If it’s hard wood on top of that….good luck!

Good point. I hadn’t thought of that. I don’t know what kind of wood it is, but it is visually interesting. 🙂

My friend Adrian Dorst is a Master carver. He’s told me a few things over the years about what wood is good to carve with. He prefers Alder. Having said that,this kind of wood is excellent for a carver with a lathe! Putting the piece on the machine and turning it can produce excellent bowls!

Yes, I have seen some really great ones, as well. An artist in Penticton sells them, along with rustic tables, chairs (incredibly expensive!) and other made-to-order pieces. They’re so gorgeous!
