This amazing photograph of a Siberian tiger hugging a tree was taken in the wild with a hidden camera. The camera was set up in the forest and then left to be triggered when the tiger came by.

As you can imagine, pictures of these extremely rare tigers are difficult to get and this one has very deservedly won the Wildlife Photography of the Year competition for photographer Sergey Gorshkov.

That’s so true, especially considering that it was automated.

That’s so cool. I wonder how they knew a tiger was going to show up. Maybe the tiger was scratching his back in the alcove of the trunk?
It’s no wonder this photo won. Amazing.

Yes, I think the tiger is scratching or just behaving like a really large kitty. 😉
The original article indicates that this is an area frequented by tigers (a tiger preserve) and there were many trip cameras set, too. But still, the photographer might not have gotten a useable picture. The odds were pretty strongly against it, I’d say.

That’s a great shot!
He probably just has an itchy chin, but it sure looks like he loves that tree!

Right? I think it’s awesome. I agree, he’s just scratching or rubbing to leave his scent, but he does look like he very happily loves the tree. 🙂

Gorgeous! Look at how straight his/her back is. That tiger won’t be needing a chiropractor anytime soon… 😉

Nope, no chiropractor needed there. What gets me is the size. That is a big cat (with very kitty-like habits – reminders of Cleo?)! 🙂

It’s an extraordinary photograph, combining a good deal of luck with a huge amount of skill and effort. A deserving winner.

Yes, I think so too. Quite amazing to get a photo at all, let alone one that shows the tiger in such a contented, relaxed moment.

What a beautiful picture. I can easily see how this won the Wildlife Photography of the Year competition! Even big kitties like to hug!

Yes, I find the kitty-like behaviour to be endearing, even though this is a very large, dangerous cat. Such an amazing photo. 🙂
