Taking the long way home is sometimes a very good thing. Supertramp’s Roger Hodgson:

In Canada, we celebrate Thanksgiving this weekend. With covid still making the rounds, it will be an odd one, but we can still be thankful for being able to take the long way.

    1. Thank you, Lori. 🙂 I was driving into the east when I realised that the setting sun was perfectly aligned with the road, so I stopped for a picture. My home is in the west, so it felt poignant, too.
      Yes, it will be, at the very least, strange, but yes, there are good things. We just have to think of them. 🙂

      Yes, there are things to keep moving forward for! My home is in the west and this photo made me very wistful for it.

    1. Since I’m French-Canadian, I grew up with tourtière for Jour de l’Action de grâce. The spread is often very local depending on where you are, but I understand that some Americans who were escaping the revolutionary war brought with them the traditions of turkey and pumpkin pie. Many Canadians consider that meal to be de rigueur. Thanksgiving in Canada started in 1587 when the explorer Martin Frobisher came back after he got lost among the icebergs in the far Arctic. His return was a big cause for celebration … we’re still celebrating it. 😉

      1. That’s educational; Jour de l’action de grace sounds delicious, even if I don’t know what tourtiere is.
        1587, that’s twenty years before Jamestown, where Thanksgiving, if they had it, was a lot less palatable.
        I hope you have a lovely time and stay awake on that long straight road.

        1. Hi Kenny, tourtière is a meat pie with pastry, very delicious and also very traditional among French-Canadians, especially for Thanksgiving or Christmas. Jour de l’Action de grâce is French for Thanksgiving Day. 🙂

  10. Love the sunset at the end of the road. It felt a bit strange to not get together with family this Thanksgiving, but I’m glad we had nice weather this weekend so were able to spend time outside and enjoy all the beautiful fall colours. Enjoy the rest of your long weekend. Take care.
