Summer Dreaming

It has been snowing for almost three weeks. There have been gaps, but mostly, snow. In Chipewyan, yath. Falling. Almost like rain. Straight down. Heavy and fat and weighty. Definitely not just a few flakes. Not to be ignored.

It looks like this.

It’s really grey and it’s getting dark very early (and earlier all the time!).

I’m missing this.

Ah, summer. It’s only November and I have a while to go, so is it okay if I start dreaming about you now? Never too early?

I’m looking forward to seeing you again, old friend. 🙂

  4. And yet, they are predicting +10 here for Sunday. I would have never thought that last snow fall would melt, but I may be wrong. Now, if we could just get away from the freezing rain. Only 37 days to the shortest day of the year. Yikes. Enjoy your weekend Lynette. Allan

    1. Thanks Allan. 🙂 I remember those switches of temperature from my years of living in Medicine Hat. Here it’s more stable. It gets cold and stays that way until late April. 😉
      Yup, the countdown to the turnaround – I’m looking forward to that. It gets dark here really early now.

  5. Yeah, that’s about how it looks here today. Gray, but we only have a couple of inches on the ground. It stopped snowing, for now. As I type this, the sun is surprising me with a rainbow halo trying to burn through the hazy sky.

      For some reason, the cold and snow are bothering me this year. The days are getting really short and it’s just so grey. Maybe I need to use my light book. 🙂

      1. I’m not sure what a light book is, but I have a sun lamp I use daily during the shorter days of the year. It does seem to help with the winter doldrums. I recommend it. We’re not supposed to see the sun here until the weekend. 😒

        I like the sound of that parka coming below your knees. I need to find one like that.

        1. A light book (or lite book) is a sort of portable sun lamp; it folds into pocket book size so that it can be easily carried and it’s also really thin.

          Canada Goose has long parkas, just above the ground if you want them that long (but they’re really expensive because you’re also buying the name), but there are other types available online.

          Mine was made for me. One of the elders here is a master seamstress and I asked her to sew one for me. She figured out my size by looking at me! No measuring, and she did just one fitting for a couple of slight adjustments. It’s perfect! It was expensive too, but I figure it will last me the rest of my time up here (and beyond) and this is how she makes her living. I’m a big believer in supporting local. 🙂

    1. Aww, thank you. That’s a lovely suggestion. 🙂 I am going to the Caribbean for winter break this year, so I have a nice warm weather break to look forward to and shouldn’t fuss too much, but somehow I am quite bothered by the snow and cold this year.

      1. Cleo would happily welcome another female in the domicile, as she finds the menfolk to be rather dreary and predictable. Plus, we can all wear shorts and t-shirts at Christmas, usually, so everybody wins… 😉

    1. My home is in BC’s Okanagan Valley which is very temperate. There is winter but it’s short and not very cold. Right now I am working in the north and normally the winter doesn’t bother me much, but this year it’s a different story. I am going to the Caribbean for a break next month – looking forward to it. 🙂
