We have recently had some very soft evening light.

It has been a lovely time of day, windless and calm …

… with some thinish clouds adding a veiled, mellow luminosity.

For a few seconds a strong pinkish tone emerged (this picture is completely unretouched). It was likely caused by light scattering of the blue and violet wavelengths allowing the pink, orange and red wavelengths to illuminate the clouds.

It didn’t last long but was very pretty.
Happy Thursday.
Any one of those would have made a great poster, back in our young days.

Thank you, Anneli. Yes, you’re quite right! I had forgotten about those huge posters we used to put up all over the place.

The pink and purple skies are beautiful. It didn’t last long, but at least you got to enjoy it (and take some pictures).

Yes, that sudden pink glow was quite a surprise and then gone just as quickly. Agreed, I was fortunate to see it and take some pictures.

I think those grey sky shots are what writers refer to as a leaden sky and the sun is what I would call a weak winter sun. Skies and lighting are so different at this time of year and really capture the mood Lynette. Allan

Yes, I would agree with those descriptions. Definitely leaden, definitely weak or watery. But I liked the gentle effect, especially as it was windless – yay! Much different from today with our very thick cloud layer and drizzly rain. We have +8, though. Cheers.

I haven’t heard that term in a very long time but I agree, it’s a good description for this type of light. Thanks for commenting. Cheers.
