The recent wolf moon briefly became visible through the clouds and I was able to capture these images. They’re not the best since I was scrambling around to get pictures before the clouds covered it again but they will do.

This moon was classified as a supermoon since to the casual observer it appeared to be full on both the night before and after its peak. Additionally, supermoons are also so-called because the moon is at its closest point to the earth, making it appear extra-bright.

The wolf moon earned its name because wolves don’t hibernate and in ancient times their howling would have been especially noticeable. Images of wolves howling at the moon are iconic, especially of the north.

There will be two other supermoons this year on November 24 and December 24.
Happy Tuesday
Oh my cats want to howl at that 🐺

That is interesting information Lynette. We had a very clear sky during the wolf Moon and Jupiter was pretty close the full moon so it looked nice.

Thank you very much, Thomas. Yes, I read that Jupiter was visible in clear conditions but apart from the little cloud break when I took the pictures we were unfortunately overcast.

I could capture only the half crescent Wolf moon…

I think that half moons are beautiful, too, though.

I am left the a picture of scrambling around the house from window to window with a camera. 😜

Hahaha. 😊 I only had to scramble to my deck, but a scramble it was! Where’s the camera? Where’s my shoes? I can’t get the lens cap off! And so on … 😉

I never saw the Wolf Moon here until yesterday AM when the skies finally cleared. Looking forward to some January sun and moon shine. Happy Tuesday Lynette. Allan

Thanks, Allan. After the storms you had I think you deserve some sun and clear skies! We definitely have good temperatures but January skies here are always iffy.

There must be king tides now, to go with the wolf moon. All that, plus today’s torrential rain — water levels will be extremely high!

Yes, there are king tides right now and I think coastal flooding warnings have been in place for BC for a couple of days now. Agreed – together with all that rain the water levels will be very high. Stay dry!

We noticed it here in India, more because of its colour than its size….a strange deep orange colour.

Yes, I think that its proximity to the Earth probably intensified its size appearance but the colour was probably affected by the moon’s low winter position on the horizon. The light takes a longer path to reach you and at the same time, blue and green tones are scattered. Any pollution, dust or smoke in the air will also escalate that orange/red effect, too. Cheers.

I really like your last photo, Lynette 😊. I’ve never seen a supermoon, maybe next time.

Thank you very much, Belinda! It’s rather pixelated because I was in a hurry (and I’m still learning my new camera) but despite that I like it, too. There are supermoons coming up in November and December so a bit of a wait but I hope yours calms down get to see one of them. Cheers.
