Vineyard Views

The showers – and more recently, the good rainfall – have helped the vineyards enormously as they continue to recover from January’s nasty cold snap.

There is more healing to come, but in the meantime, it’s a lovely sight as we take a walking break to admire the view.

    1. We’re still classified as having level three drought, which means that it’s “severely dry.” The rain we’ve been getting has helped to an amazing degree, though. A lot of the vines won’t produce fruit this year – the cold killed the primary and secondary buds – but it’s wonderful to see many of them doing so well now.

  3. I hope this winter is kinder to the valley. We were surprised to see peaches from Oliver at our local market. They were yummy, but such a hassle for the fruit growers to have to arrange their own sales now. Happy Tuesday Lynette. Allan

    1. Thanks, Allan. Yes, everyone is hoping for a more “normal” winter without the dips into the double digit minus temperatures. It’s interesting that you have peaches from Oliver. Unfortunately, they’re probably from Georgia. Some places have been shipping them in and trying to pass them off as local. My understanding is that none of the local peach trees had fruit this year.

      1. I actually misspoke. The peaches were from Ontario. It was the Honeycrisp apples that came from Oliver. Yes, the whole B.C. Tree Fruits fiasco does nobody any favours. Cheers.

    1. They are definitely at their peak right now and many fields look absolutely fine. Fingers crossed that all goes well with the harvest and our winter temperatures stay more normal this time! Wine is a very important food group. 😉
