Cathy at Words and Herbs had the great idea of posting a “week of flowers” to help chase away the winter blahs. My contribution for today are pictures of some late summer pond lilies from our Japanese garden.

And a closer view …

Happy flowers week.

How pretty! I think pond lilies are quite magical and one of my favourite paintings is Monet’s lily pond. 😃

I agree. I love Monet’s lily pond. This pond is part of a public garden/park system along the lake near our home.

Pond lilies are amazing. I had to click through Cathy’s site–Words and Herbs–who could pass that up!

Such lovely photos and I do like the idea of a Japanese garden.

Thank you very much. This particular garden is quite small but very effective in lowering the stress levels. I sometimes just enjoy sitting there, not thinking about anything much.

I think sitting and doing nothing is a good thing. I can easily zone out in the garden, listening to the birds.

I definitely can, too. Such a great respite when I feel overloaded.

I do, too. I usually see white or light pink ones, but the Japanese garden has these – so pretty.

These are lovely. We don’t have this variety here.

There are many white and light pink ones around, but I’ve only found these red ones in the Japanese Garden, so I don’t think they’re very common.

So pretty. I’ve actually never seen a red lily in person before, just white and yellow.

I’ve only seen them in the one garden (it’s a heritage hotel garden with active vegetable and herb beds) but they are apparently quite common in Canada and especially BC. Just so you know in case you are thinking of planting some – they are toxic to cats.
