The Last of the Leaves

There are still some green leaves about, but their numbers are dwindling.

These are two of the few.
A rusty red Norfolk maple.
A lingering sugar maple.

By the time I post this, these trees will be mostly bare. Autumn graces us with its stunningly colourful beauty for only a short time.

Happy Monday.

  1. Great remnants Lynette. As I type this from Vancouver, the leaves which were so glorious on our arrival have slumped off their branches from all the rain. Still very pretty. Happy Monday. Allan

  2. Yes, our trees our mostly bare now. The piles on the curbs are building. I saw one guy who must’ve driven over someone’s pile, and it was all up under his fender. Our next door neighbor’s tree is still full and just now turning a rust color. It’s gorgeous. I hate when the wind picks up to steal them all away.

    1. Hi Lori, yes, the trees in the photos are mostly leafless now. The cottonwoods are just now turning yellow, so we have had a lovely cavalcade of colour.

Yes, it’s bit sad if the wind picks up and takes them away all at once but we have been fortunate this year with quite a gentle descent and lots of slow rain (which we really needed).

This is so different ( and fantastic) from my last six autumns spent in the NWT where there’s a ton of snow by now!

  3. After spending the past few weeks dealing with the fallen leaves in our backyard (which largely consists of me stepping in our yard waste bins to pack down and crush the leaves), I must say, I’m ready for all the clingers to just let go!

    1. Hahaha. 🙂 Yes, I understand. I’ve done lots of leaf raking and packing over the years, starting with helping out with my mother’s compost when I was about six. Agreed; in the end, you just want them to all go away!
