Although red might be associated more with autumn, it’s a ubiquitous summer colour, as well. Here’s a selection demonstrating my favourite.

Happy Wednesday.

Seeing red on a Wednesday is not a bad thing. Thanks for sharing Lynette. Allan

Hahaha. 🙂 Nice one, Allan. We had rain last night and this morning it’s clear, so you actually can see red. 🙂

I don’t think I’ve ever seen red hydrangeas. Hummingbirds love to see anything red, so I’m wondering if there are a lot of them around there (where you took the pictures).

I didn’t know that about hummingbirds; I thought the flower shape was more important; then again, the feeders for them are always red. There are a couple of places where I’ve seen red hydrangeas growing, but I didn’t notice any hummingbirds zooming about. Cheers.

They even hover around me sometimes if I’m wearing a red shirt – just in case I’m a sweet flower – haha.

That’s amazing! I’ve seen the males doing their ritual mating dance (once I saw one on a trail just non-stop flying a vertical display and he was still there two hours later when I returned) but I’ve never been approached like that. Their instincts are so strong!

I’m sure they were embarrassed when they realized their mistake – that it’s only me.

So vibrant! I really like the castor bean pods, a new plant for me,

Thank you very much. I find them so unusual and pretty (but of course the beans themselves have to be avoided). Cheers.

What a lovely showcase of red flowers. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a red hydrangea before.

Thank you very much, Linda. The red hydrangeas are really beautiful but difficult to achieve. The best way is to put rusty nails in the soil around a blue one to influence a colour change. You can buy some hydrangeas that are dark pink or purple, but the real red comes from a little experimentation, I think. I saw this one in the yard of an older home; the garden there is gorgeous.

Nice collection or reds, Lynette! I especially like the shot of the geraniums. The contrast between the blooms and the foliage filling the gaps is neat.

Thank you very much, Steve. Of course, we’re coming up to having lots more reds with autumn’s imminent arrival.
