Red

Although red might be associated more with autumn, it’s a ubiquitous summer colour, as well. Here’s a selection demonstrating my favourite.

Red rose.
Red lily.
Red geraniums.
Red hydrangeas.
Red castor bean pods.

Happy Wednesday.

    1. I didn’t know that about hummingbirds; I thought the flower shape was more important; then again, the feeders for them are always red. There are a couple of places where I’ve seen red hydrangeas growing, but I didn’t notice any hummingbirds zooming about. Cheers.

        1. That’s amazing! I’ve seen the males doing their ritual mating dance (once I saw one on a trail just non-stop flying a vertical display and he was still there two hours later when I returned) but I’ve never been approached like that. Their instincts are so strong!

    1. Thank you very much, Linda. The red hydrangeas are really beautiful but difficult to achieve. The best way is to put rusty nails in the soil around a blue one to influence a colour change. You can buy some hydrangeas that are dark pink or purple, but the real red comes from a little experimentation, I think. I saw this one in the yard of an older home; the garden there is gorgeous.
