    1. Thank you, Barb. This peony bush belongs to a neighbour; I could see that there were several more in the back. My mother, who was a gardener extraordinaire, always said that individual peony bushes shouldn’t be planted next to each other because they like their own space. I always followed that rule and mine grew profusely. Good luck with your babies. Cheers.

  1. I do love peonies, but they tend to be so messy as the year goes on, especially if the wind hits them. We have seen so many beautiful varieties in our walks around Vancouver, as they come into their own. Happy Monday Lynette. Allan

    1. Thanks, Allan. They definitely require quite a bit of care and yes, they shed a lot, but my, they are so beautifully lush. Seeing all the plants of varying kinds (including peonies) is one of the great things about neighbourhood walks. Cheers.

    1. My mom, who was an amazing gardener, always said that peonies should never be planted next to each other (they need lots of space) and always in the sun. If you’re interested in trying again, I followed my mom’s rule and was able to grow them (and my thumb is some shade or other of brown). That bush is gorgeous and the scent is heavenly. Cheers.

  2. Oh yes, our neighbor has those right next to our house. They are gorgeous, but they also attract a lot of ants, which have been invading my peaceful patio.

    1. Ants love the peonies. They drink the flower nectar and in return defend the plant against harmful bugs that could damage it, so it’s a mutually beneficial relationship. They should just be hanging out on or near the plant though, not on your patio unless it’s very close by. It’s no fun having ants everywhere.

    1. I don’t have a yard any more but I love to see what others are growing in theirs. I was delighted to come across this beautiful plant in someone’s front yard. I caught glimpses of more in the back but couldn’t see them very well. They’re so beautiful. Cheers.
