I recently saw this lovely peony bush in full bloom.

They are such lush and richly scented flowers; they make me really feel like it’s summer.
Happy Monday.

Lovely! (I’m a peony novice, but have been slowly guiding my baby peonies along. That bush is what they want to be when they grow up.)

Thank you, Barb. This peony bush belongs to a neighbour; I could see that there were several more in the back. My mother, who was a gardener extraordinaire, always said that individual peony bushes shouldn’t be planted next to each other because they like their own space. I always followed that rule and mine grew profusely. Good luck with your babies. Cheers.

This bush is in the front yard of a neighbour. The owner is extremely proud of this plant (apparently it’s photographed a lot) and should be; it’s magnificent!

I do love peonies, but they tend to be so messy as the year goes on, especially if the wind hits them. We have seen so many beautiful varieties in our walks around Vancouver, as they come into their own. Happy Monday Lynette. Allan

Thanks, Allan. They definitely require quite a bit of care and yes, they shed a lot, but my, they are so beautifully lush. Seeing all the plants of varying kinds (including peonies) is one of the great things about neighbourhood walks. Cheers.

I always wished I could grow them because they are so lush and delicate, but I don’t have the right green thumb necessary for them. These are so gorgeous.

My mom, who was an amazing gardener, always said that peonies should never be planted next to each other (they need lots of space) and always in the sun. If you’re interested in trying again, I followed my mom’s rule and was able to grow them (and my thumb is some shade or other of brown). That bush is gorgeous and the scent is heavenly. Cheers.

Thanks for the tips, Lynette. If I feel brave enough one of these days, I’ll do that.

I hope you give them another try some time.

Maybe next year. Too late for this year.

The best time to plant peonies is autumn, probably because they’ve gone dormant by then. Cheers.

Well, there you go – that proves that I’m no peony expert.

Oh yes, our neighbor has those right next to our house. They are gorgeous, but they also attract a lot of ants, which have been invading my peaceful patio.

Ants love the peonies. They drink the flower nectar and in return defend the plant against harmful bugs that could damage it, so it’s a mutually beneficial relationship. They should just be hanging out on or near the plant though, not on your patio unless it’s very close by. It’s no fun having ants everywhere.

The houses aren’t tight, but the peonies are near our patio, so that’s why we find them there.

Stunning. Our peonies are in bloom at the moment. We have three in our yard and are thinking of adding a couple more.

I don’t have a yard any more but I love to see what others are growing in theirs. I was delighted to come across this beautiful plant in someone’s front yard. I caught glimpses of more in the back but couldn’t see them very well. They’re so beautiful. Cheers.
