We have had some amazing Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) lately.

Instead of the usual green, we have also had shades of pink, purple, red, and yellow; people have been able to see them as far south as New Mexico. These spectacular night shows are caused by some unusual solar flare activity and are expected to continue until about the middle of 2025.
Happy Monday.
Northern lights, captured very well π

A great place to see them from Lynette. We have not been out and about enough to spot them here, but they seem to be strong all across the prairies. Happy Monday. Allan

Yes, we have front row seats up here, for sure, but the prairies have been getting good views as well. Later in the evening works well if itβs not overcast of course, but you need to bundle up!

After all the cold weather you’ve had to put up with, you deserve this beauty.

Unusually, these picturesque ‘northern lights’ have been visible in our portion of the UK. Unfortunately, our specific corner has, of course, been blanketed by cloud every time they’ve appeared here!

Thatβs really unfortunate, Stuart. I hope your overcast clears up as you might be able to get some great photos. It will mean staying up and bundling up, but well worth it!

They say this phenomenon may last a few months, Lynette, so I’m hopeful. Unfortunately, our location, in a narrow river valley, surrounded by trees, places us in a situation not ideal for capturing the sky anywhere near the horizon, but I’ll be keeping my eyes open for the spectacle!

Here, the weather folks and scientists are saying that these lights could last until 2025. If thatβs the case, you may have opportunities for photos, although as you note, a valley might not be the best vantage point. You might have to go a bit higher; maybe make an overnight trip of it!

Fingers crossed! We’ll be travelling for short periods during that time, so might get the chance!

Wow. Did you take that picture? I can’t imagine what it would be like to see the lights in person. I think I would feel humbled to the vastness of the Universe. I heard about the unusual solar flare. They said it could even effect electricity. So far, so good. π€

Yes. Itβs not a particularly good photo as Iβm not very experienced with that type of photography, but it gives an idea of what theyβre like right now. You can hear them, too, a sort of slight rustling. They are amazing, Lori. They streak across the sky, swirling and circling and when they really get going itβs like a bright curtain hanging and undulating there. Itβs definitely humbling; nature is an incredible force.

I think it’s a great photo. The colors look like they’re seeping out of the sky.

Thank you Lori. I didnβt think that Iβd captured it all that well, but Iβm glad that you feel that way about the colours. It definitely feels as you have described!

Thank you very much. Yes, we are getting excellent seats to quite a show right now. These particularly great ones are expected to last until 2025 when the solar flare activity drops off a bit.

Gorgeous capture of the northern lights. Thereβs way too much light pollution around where we are in southern Ontario for us to see them.

Thank you very much. Thatβs unfortunate. Maybe if you take a trip to your cabin? These lights are supposed to keep happening until 2025, so I hope you get some opportunities. They are so amazing!

Good to know. We’re actually planning on heading up to the cabin over easter. Fingers crossed.

Good luck! You will need some good hot chocolate in a great thermal mug and warm clothes and footwear because theyβre best seen when itβs completely dark out.

Great suggestion about the hot chocolate! The forecast is looking promising so far for next weekend in terms of clear skies.

Awesome! We had, according to posts I saw on Facebook, many aurora sightings here in Massachusetts. I didn’t see them because I only learned of it after the fact, As far north as you are you must see them often which does not take away the thrill. β€

They are stunning and the Arctic and subarctic have the best seats for the show. Right now they are more amazing than usual because of the solar flares and you can also hear them (itβs faint but audible). No, the thrill definitely never dissipates. I hope you get an opportunity to see them as they are so beautiful. π
