The Mackenzie River is the largest river system in Canada and the second largest in North America.

It is so big that in places it looks like an ocean or huge lake. It even has a vanishing point.

Driving across the bridge that spans the Mackenzie going south from Yellowknife doesn’t capture that effect. However, this photo from July almost does. Not quite.
Aren’t these blues amazing?

Greetings from the fabulous lakes and waterways of the Northwest Territories.
Great photos, Lynette. I really like the last shot. The water looks like glass. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you. 🙂 It’s really impressive. It’s only in the last ten or so years that there’s been a bridge across it. Earlier there was a summer ferry and in winter an ice road.

I can only imagine how early settlers saw this, how the natives enjoyed it. Lovely, Lynette.

The bridge has only been there for about ten years. Earlier there was a summer ferry and in winter an ice road. Up until then, it wouldn’t have looked much different from what the earliest inhabitants saw. 🙂

They certainly are! Not for the faint of heart though – make sure you’re dressed well. 🙂

It really is big! In some places you can’t see land in any direction.

You’re welcome! 🙂 The weather and the vastness of this part of Canada carve impressive paths that have to be respected. Working here has been quite an experience.

I have indelible memories & am grateful for the work that took me north so often, for a number of years. I’m happy it’s a joy for you as well.

Thank you. 🙂 I don’t know what causes it – maybe our proximity to the top of the world – but colours seem to be so much more intense here, even when they’re muted.
