Somnolent summer carp …

… barely moving in their sunny pond …

… staring intently …

… and asking: why are you not covered in water?
Happy Tuesday.

I am sure the carp get sluggish during the hot weather. Love your last shot of the Kilroy carp. Happy Tuesday Lynette. Allan

Isn’t that quite a stare? I don’t know if he was staring at me or just being an overheated fish, but it was interesting. They have lots of shade in that pond all day long, so I was surprised to see two of them out in the sun like that as we are getting quite hot now. Usually they’re under the deck that’s over the pond. Cheers.

I wonder if they feel the heat, the last one looks kind of hungry 😊

They definitely do because most of them spend their days in the shade when we start getting into the 30s. It was odd to see those two out in the sun like that. They are fed a special diet by parks maintenance (people aren’t supposed to feed them but occasionally I’ll see someone doing just that) so I don’t think that one was hungry. Maybe hopeful? 😊

I imagine they will be happier when the weather cools. Great photos, Lynette!

Thanks, Tricia. Normally they’re in the shaded areas of the pond but these two were out in the sun. Quite unusual.

Our eagles and ospreys would have fun with them.

This pond is too enclosed by trees and a building (and there’s a deck over part of the pond, too) for our resident eagles and hawks to hunt properly. They always ignore it and hunt on the big lake. We don’t have any gulls or crows around, either (the raptors chased them off), so the carp are fairly safe (and the ducklings, too). Cheers.

He certainly is. It was interesting to watch him watching although I know that given the size of his brain, he probably kept forgetting what he was looking at!

I wonder if they are staring intently in the hopes that people will feed them food!

That’s what I think, Linda, but they’re fed a special diet by the groundskeepers and of course there’s lots in their pond. People do feed them even though they’re not supposed to.
