We arrived at Keflavík airport in Iceland at 8:00 a.m. local (2 a.m. for us) and although very tired did our best to push through it. We decided to do a much-needed walk through Reykjavik to stretch our legs and also so that I could reaquaint myself after a number of years since my last visit. This is M’s first visit and we are very much enjoying it together.

It was overcast with a misty rain but not an unpleasant day. We enjoyed walking around one of the ponds in a nearby park and viewing the colourfully-roofed houses on the opposite shore.

This is a grey lag goose. Quite different from our ubiquitous Canada geese at home, but the behaviour was quite similar.

There were lots of marsh marigolds in bloom; so pretty and bright.

As with many port cities, Reykjavik is built on a hilly area next to the sea. The walking requires lots of up-and-downhill; we felt it was very good for us after our flight. Once we finished a light lunch of an excellent seafood soup, we headed back to our hotel for some much-needed sleep.
Not the ideal time to arrive, but I agree- a bit of fresh air would help.

No, not ideal but pushing through a bit helped. Once I had lunch though, I was finished!

Always difficult when the time difference is so big. Hard to stay awake, but often the only way to push through the jetlag.

Yes, it always is, but I agree, pushing through is the best way to minimise it. I had a couple of fatigue spells in the first two days but pushed through those as well. Cheers.

Enjoy your stay in Iceland. Watch out for that volcanic activity, mind!
We get grey lag geese here on our lakes and rivers. I was once on a small offshore island when a flock of around 700 landed in the field next me. Deafening!

Thank you very much, Stuart. We planned around the present volcanic activity and aren’t visiting that area of the country.
The grey lag geese look very different from our Canada geese but their behaviour is quite similar. Very grumpy and crusty! A flock of 700 is a lot! Wow! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a goose flock that large.

I think we’re on a migration route here, Lynette.

Yes, that must be it.

Great to see your photos Lynette. Reminds us of our grey June days, but those moments of sunshine k=make it all come alive. Have a great time. Allan

Thank you very much, Allan. After our first few days in Reykavik, we are now driving around the country in a rental car. Such breathtaking scenery and sights. We had a mix of rain and sun today with only 10C but we have all the right gear along. Living in NWT taught us everything we needed to know! 😊

The first day always feels like a long day. I read on the news about how a volcano has recently erupted in Iceland and led to the evacuation of the Blue Lagoon. Hope your plans aren’t being impacted by it.

Hi Linda, that volcano has been erupting since December and we planned around it, so we’re not going near that part of Iceland. We had planned to visit a different lagoon (hot springs) as well, so we’re in good nick.
Yes, that first day is always so long! I managed until about 1:30 and then had to crash. It has been pretty good since, though; the jet lag not too bad. I’ve experienced much worse.

Yes, it definitely is. I’ve had the pleasure of visiting several times before; it’s without question one of my favourite countries. This is M’s first visit and he’s really enjoying it as well.

Have a great trip. Maybe you’ll get to see the Northern Lights.

Thank you very much, Neil. We won’t see them because we have about 22 hours of daylight and about 2 hours of twilight. That’s okay though because we lived in Northwest Territories for six years and were fortunate enough to see them often. Cheers.

Looks cool, but so very clean.

It is definitely cool. Yesterday we had sun but today it was a mix of rain and sun and a high of 10C. We have our northern gear along so we’re in good shape, though!
Yes, Iceland is a very clean country. The public toilets are a good example of that. Always in an excellent and clean condition.
