I had the same thought as kagould17. I used to think pelicans only existed in places like Mexico and Florida. I was surprised to see them in Alberta when I visited there.
I used to live in southern Alberta and saw them frequently on the South Saskatchewan River. Sometimes they will nest on storm ponds, too, which makes nice safe spots for their young ones. Cheers.
