The black squirrels we see in Ontario are a subgroup of the Eastern Grey Squirrel but when I saw this squirrel with its unusual blond tail I thought …
CURIOUS SQUIRREL
An amazing capture of a black squirrel with a blond tail; photo by Belinda Grover.
Wow that’s so different! I like it!
This squirrel decided on something different from his hairdresser!
Definitely!
All the squirrels will want one of those tails now.
They’re very cute. I might want one, too. 😉
A lot of squirrels in the Spring and Fall will have tails that color, which I believe is the undercoating of their normally bushy tails. I’ve never seen a picture of a black squirrel with a golden tail, though! Very cool!
I certainly haven’t seen a black and blond squirrel before; so amazing! I didn’t know that this is the regular undercoating colour – I should probably pay more attention. Cheers.
I was always puzzled by the blondeness of some squirrel tails, then I saw this guy and I developed the undercoating theory…
Wow! That is one unusual looking squirrel! It looks like the tail was damaged or maybe he was doing some very specific shedding (although that doesn’t seem right, either). Thanks for sharing.
