Yes – that was done with a lens from the inside of my truck. No bear strolls for me! This was a young bear, a yearling, I think, and he seemed in good shape after the winter.
Fabulous close-up shot of the bear. I love the little strands of grass that are hanging down from his mouth. I wouldn’t want to encounter him on the trail. But at least he was eating a vegetarian meal.
Hahaha. Bears are omnivorous, so they like their meat, too. 🙂 This one was quite curious and bold; they usually run away. I have been avoiding the trails right now as there are bears everywhere, and most of them are a bit sort of half-asleep stunned.
How far away from it were you when you took the photo?
About 50 metres (Google says that’s 164 ft.) – I used a lens from inside my truck.
I hope that was taken with a long zoom lens. I see he’s eating grass so maybe he doesn’t need anything meaty just now.

Even this little guy is too big for me to think about messing with him.
If I had started toward him he probably would have run away; most do around here. But I sure wasn’t going to test that out.
“Most” isn’t good enough! You were wise to stay in your vehicle.
Agreed. I don’t need a bear encounter in my life. 🙂
Very nice! He looks in fine shape.
He seems to have come through this very long winter in fine fettle. 🙂

Good call. I also wouldn’t want to stumble across a mama and her baby cubbies.
Definitely not! The bears do tend to run away, but you’re right, best not to encounter an aggressive one or get between a mom and her kids!
