This amazing photo was taken in France and shows two different types of wasp: the red-banded sand wasp (left) and the cuckoo wasp (right). The photographer was trying to capture the cuckoo wasp but got a bonus with both of them.
I’m not a fan of wasps, but this photo is beautiful and the work it took to get it pretty amazing.
Happy Wednesday. 🙂
This is extraordinary and scary. I don’t like wasps either.
I was willing to suspend my dislike to view this wonderful photo!
Agreed. It’s still a wonderful photo even if you don’t like wasps.
Yes. 🙂
Great photo! I’ve never seen wasps that colorful.
Yes, the photo is amazing! I haven’t either. Ours are usually black and yellow.
It always amazes me how someone can capture a shot like that. They must be so patient.
Agreed. I think this photographer was using movement sensors, but still, it’s quite a capture.
It’s like the wasps would dance in the air! Amazing photo and not easy to get 😊
No, not easy at all. It’s quite a spectacular capture.
I have plenty of wasps in the summer, but they’re all drab looking. I’d almost feel guilty breaking out the Raid for that rainbow wasp…
Right? They are really pretty. I don’t like wasps (ours are black and yellow and huge and aggressive) but these don’t resemble ours much at all.
Really amazing photo! And wasps are carnivorous and eat other bugs…..including honey bees!
Yes, it is really quite a capture. I don’t know if these wasp varieties attack honeybees, but if they’re craving mosquitoes, I’m good with that! The name “cuckoo” implies that they are invading the nests of other wasp species.
Fascinating!
The colors are stunning!
Right? I didn’t know that such colourful wasps exist.
I’ve never heard of a cuckoo wasp before — he’s a pretty guy. Don’t want him anywhere near me though!
I hadn’t heard of them before, either. And I agree, I don’t want them near me!
